Description:A CMM Inspector (Coordinate Measuring Machine
Inspector) is a professional who operates and maintains coordinate
measuring machines (CMMs) in manufacturing or quality control
settings. CMMs are advanced tools used to measure the physical
geometrical characteristics of an object. A CMM inspector is
responsible for inspecting and ensuring the precision and accuracy
of parts or products according to engineering drawings,
specifications, or design standards.Requirements:Key
responsibilities of a CMM Inspector include:
- Operating CMM Equipment: Setting up and operating the
coordinate measuring machines to measure parts and components
accurately. This can include both manual and automated CMM
systems.
- Inspection and Measurement: Inspecting parts to ensure they
meet required specifications, measuring attributes like dimensions,
angles, surface roughness, and positioning of holes or
features.
- Data Analysis: Reviewing measurement data to identify any
discrepancies or defects. The inspector uses this data to determine
whether the part or component is within the allowable
tolerances.
- Reporting and Documentation: Recording inspection results,
documenting any deviations, and providing reports to engineers or
managers. If defects or out-of-tolerance measurements are detected,
the CMM inspector communicates these findings to the relevant team
for corrective action.
- Maintenance of Equipment: Ensuring that the CMM is properly
calibrated and maintained for optimal performance. This includes
regular checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Quality Control and Assurance: Working to maintain high
standards of quality assurance, ensuring that products meet
industry standards and customer requirements.Skills Required:
- Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
(GD&T)
- Proficiency in CMM software, such as Mitutoyo PC-DMIS
- Attention to detail and precision
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good communication skills for reporting and team
coordination
- Knowledge of various types of measuring equipment and
toolsPhysical Requirements
